The Library

About 

The Learning Resource Centre of St. Joseph's Institute of Management plays very important & vital role in all academic & research activities. The LRC  provides access to various information resources ranging from the latest management books, textbooks and audio-visual materials. It's prompt and effective services are in sync with the changing needs of the academic community which is moving towards the electronic resources such as e-books, e-journals and database.

The LRC also provides various service to its users like Reference Services, Research support, Circulation Services, Databases Training Support, User Guidance Service, Photocopy Service, Bibliographic Service, Document Delivery Service, Online Catalogue Service, Article Alert and Current Awareness Service by new arrivals of book.

In addition to the various resources, LRC hosts a magazine lounge, a browsing centre and a media room. There are also multiple study rooms where students meet for group discussions. The LRC is fully air-conditioned and Wi-Fi-enabled.

Circulation

LRC has very well-defined and user-friendly circulation, copyright, resource development, resource sharing policies and guidelines to meet the requirements of the JIM community.

Rules and Regulations

  • Perfect silence should be observed in the Library.
  • Students can borrow and return books between 9.00 a.m. and 6.15pm on all working days
  • Students can keep the books for one week's  time.
  • Books should be returned on or before the due date, which is marked on the front page of the books issued.
  • A fine of Rs.1 will be imposed per day on books returned late.
  • Books will be issued only on the presentation of  Identity Card of the student.
  • Library will be closed on Sundays and all Government Holidays.
  • Students should make good any loss of or damage to the Library books, Magazines or Library Property.
  • Reference Books, Magazines, Journals and Dailies cannot be taken out of the Library and should not be misplaced 
  • Writing or underlining in a book or tampering with a book in any manner is strictly prohibited.

                                                                               Circulation Services


Borrowing of Materials

Library provides general access to collection and a full range of loan services. These services include issue of materials from the circulating collections, checking in returned materials, and shelving of reading materials. Circulation staff in the library will also assist you in placing reservation and recall requests on items that are issued out and will help you in locating items in the stack area and deal with related matters.

Circulation Policies

Borrowing of reading materials facility is available to the faculty, researchers, students and staff of the Institute. The registration to use the library facility and services is automatic for the faculty and staff on joining the Institute and for students on registration for the academic programs.

The rules are framed to facilitate and promote, rather than to constrain, the use of library collection and services.

Membership

The faculty members, staff & students of the Institute are required to enroll as members of the Library (upon joining the Institute) by filling in the membership form available at the library circulation desk. This entitles the use of resources & services offered for the purpose of academic and research work. Institute Identity Card is a must for issue & return of reading materials

Borrowing Privileges

Faculty (Regular, Visiting, Adjunct, Guest) Ten Books for one semester
Two Reference Books for 5 Days
Two loose issue of Journals/Magazines for 5 Days
Administrative & Academic Staff Six Books for 30 days
One loose issue of a Journals/Magazines for 5 Days
Research Scholars / Research Associate Five Books for 30 days
Students Two Books for 7 days

Reference & Information Services

Library offers individualized service to assist students, faculty, researchers and staff in locating the required information, or information sources available in the LRC or elsewhere. Library staff at the circulation desk and in the reading, area are available to help readers to:

  • Discover the rich collection of reading materials.
  • Identify and use electronic and print reference tools.
  • Formulate information search strategies.
  • Locate information in the library and elsewhere.
  • Answer specific information questions.

This service is provided in person or by email or in chat mode. Users are encouraged to get in touch with library staff on lrc@jim.ac.in


Inter Library Loan (ILL)

Library arranges to borrow documents, that are not available in its collection, on Inter Library Loan from other libraries. This is done on an Institution-to-Institution basis. Such materials will have to be handled with utmost care and returned to the library well on time. This service is provided for academic and research purpose to the faculty, research scholars, students and staff who are members of the library. Members are requested to send a formal request to the library with complete bibliographic details of documents required.

Reprographics Service

The Photocopying facility is available in the library. This service is limited to library materials and particularly for copying research papers published in journals, conference proceedings for academic and research work without violating the Copy Right Act.
